Who am I
Hi. I’m Pete and this is my website.
Welcome to you and thanks for popping by.
My promise to myself was to be creative in some way or other despite any other commitments I may have or what life may demand of me. The goal has always been to find time to be creative in some way. The reason is simple. I understand the benefits of it. I get so much personal satisfaction from it.
I have followed a traditional route in art training through college and university.
I believe passionately that art and creativity is for everyone and by discovering and embracing your creativity, the mental health benefits are huge.
Whenever I have been showing one of my commissions or outdoors, painting in public or just discussing drawing painting etc, I can almost guarantee that someone who stops to see what I’m doing, will say, “I wish I could do that” or “I wish I could paint” or “Id love to be able to do that” I will always ask the same question “Why don’t you give it a go?” or “Try it, you might surprise yourself” and the reaction is pretty much always the same… “Oh, no, I can’t, I don’t know how” or “I’m too embarrassed”, or occasionally “You’d laugh if you saw me drawing” The replies are so often burdened with awkwardness or embarrassment.
So, I decided to do some digging as to why this is so. Why does this sorry state of affairs exist? there are a few things we have to understand and accept. the first is that humans are inherently creative beings. In order to exist and survive we have to be creative.
To start at the beginning, lets consider the most important question of all.
What is CREATIVITY? The generally accepted meaning of the word is ‘The use of the imagination or original ideas to create something’. To CREATE is to bring something in to existence. I believe that Creativity is the expression of ones self through any medium such as drawing, painting, photography, writing, music
